Tribute to HUNDERWASSER
Friedensreich Hundertwasser was a visionary Austrian artist and architect famed for his exuberant use of colour, whimsical forms, and irrepressible disdain for straight lines. Among his most celebrated works stands the Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna—a building that is, quite genuinely, a riotous feast for the eyes.
Hundertwasser’s ethos was to liberate architecture from dreary uniformity and allow both nature and human individuality to flourish. The Hundertwasserhaus, built between 1983 and 1985, is a residential complex boasting a kaleidoscopic façade: no two windows are alike, undulating floors replace the tyranny of level surfaces, and the exterior flashes a palette as bold as a paint-box tipped over in exuberance.
Hundertwasser believed even buildings should breathe—hence the generous green crowns and occasional “tree tenants” waving cheerfully out of windows.
